Mud Bath | Is Mud Good For Your Skin?

Still not sure about a mud bath? Is Mud good for your Skin? Have you read mixed reviews about it? I had plenty of questions as well, so I did my homework before finally trying it out at (where else?) the Dead Sea! What I learned might help convince you to take a dive into the mud and see for yourself what it’s all about!

Mud Bath Benefits:

Mud Treatments soothe the skin and can help alleviate muscle pain and joint aches. By exfoliating (removing the dead skin cells from your body) and calming the skin, it’s a great way to detox! It can also improve  some common skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. (Just make sure you don’t have any open wounds, like cracked or broken skin from eczema. These could get infected!)

Mud baths are also known to help reduce stress. The mix of soothing mud and warm salty water will relax your mind while cleansing your skin, taking you back to younger, easier times when your skin was baby smooth and you didn’t have to worry...bliss!

Famous Destinations for Mud Treatments around the World:

If you are planning a trip to any of these destinations make sure to check the Mud Hot Springs and Treatments:

Costa Rica:

National Park Rincon De La Vieja. This national park is known for its flora and fauna (look for jaguars and howler monkeys!) but you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find natural mud springs at the foot of a volcano! Costa Rica is huge on enjoying and protecting it’s natural resources, so make sure to fully appreciate the park by getting a mud treatment at the mud hot springs! Pura Vida!

In Jordan & Israel:

The Dead Sea waters and, of course, the Dead Sea mud bath are famous around the world for their healing properties. While floating in the water is one of the coolest experiences you could ever have and and it will give you memories that will last forever, doing the full mud treatment could leave your skin feeling amazing .

In Colombia:

Volcano Mud Bath in El Totumo, Cartagena. This is different from the previous two, as instead of applying the mud with your hands you have to go to the top of the volcano and then climb down into a mud pit! You can sit or lay down in the mud while you soak up its benefits directly from the source.

This is probably the most intense experience, as you have to get completely inside the mud pit . In other places, you’ll have a container of mud that has been harvested fresh for you to use and you can choose the amount you want to apply.

Some Final Thoughts:

While the mud baths I have done definitely leave my skin softer and silkier, I have also experienced a burning sensation if I leave it on too long. This especially happened at the Dead Sea, where the extremely salty water had already made my skin extra sensitive. So if you have sensitive skin, you may want to wash off earlier than recommended to avoid discomfort. Apart from this, I haven’t had any other issues from mud treatments, and I’ve definitely enjoyed the benefits of mud bath! Each place and every experience will be unique, so I encourage you to try it out for yourself every chance you get! If the natural experience isn’t for you, there's always Sephora, your favorite wine, and Netflix while you enjoy a nice mud mask or facial in bed!

Besitos from the Volcano,

Laura
